Flash will not run on Ubuntu 14. I have downloaded it but it does not see it. Tried to find a solution but have not been able to. Thank you.

Actually, I do have Flash installed and it works fine on another browser. Opera says it needs to be downloaded which I have done in all versions except the tar file.

I must have the firefox version. But have tried installing three versions that are on the Flash Download list for Linux.

The one listed in your package manager as pepperflash-nonfree should work, provided you've enabled the nonfree repository. Later versions of Ubuntu have only one package for Flash but it installs all versions.
If you go to opera://plugins what does it say?

Pretty sure the nonfree repository is enabled. It looks like the right multiverse lines are uncommented.

Adobe created a deb file for flash plugin for opera https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
If you click on the link above, the site will detect your browser, you only need to select the right package for your system:
Just select APT for Ubuntu 10.04 and higherHope that helps.

Thanks dolphintweety,
However, the Ubuntu software center pops up and says...
"There isn’t a software package called “adobe-flashplugin” in your current software sources."
I'm on version 14 so it should have worked.

I got 16.04 LTS. There is an article about this issue on webup8 but it's old and I don't know if it's still working but you could give it a try http://www.webupd8.org/2014/12/how-to-get-flash-and-h264-to-work-in.html
Good luck!

I have got 16.10 and the latest opera version and none of this works unfortunately. This is really incredible that a browser cannot have Flash working easily (while it's working on Firefox and Chrome).Has anybody been able to work it out? Thanks a lot for your help.

@asker77 and everyone else: You have to enable the canonical partners repository in order to install adobe-flashplugin. You can do everything with these three commands:
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu `sed -n '/UBUNTU_CODENAME/s/.*=//p' /etc/os-release` partner" sudo apt update sudo apt install adobe-flashplugin
Then restart Opera.
The first command adds the repository. You can also do that graphically by following these instructions, but the command is easier (cred to Ruarí Ødegaard).
