Two Questions someone may already know:

      1. My Settings -> Preferences -> Privacy & Security has the VPN engagement check box greyed out. Is it correct to assume that Opera VPN does not yet work in California?

      2. Assuming it will someday work, I see that the Opera's company, SurfEasy runs the show.
        a) Does anyone know the VPN path? For example, does all http traffic go thru SurfEasy servers?
        b) Where are those servers located geographically?
        c) Is there encryption, and if so does it start at the SurfEasy servers upon receiving the Opera client's transmission, or better, does it start at the Opera client's browser before leaving client's machine?

Are you sure you have the latest version of Opera installer? 40.0.2308.62. There should be VPN visible in Privacy & Security.

Yes, all traffic originating from Opera will use the SurfEasy servers when VPN is enabled.

Where are those servers located geographically?

Depends on which location you choose. Currently Opera offers Canada (SurfEasy's home country), Germany, Netherlands, Singapore and US.

          c) Is there encryption, and if so does it start at the SurfEasy servers upon receiving the Opera client's transmission, or better, does it start at the Opera client's browser before leaving client's machine?

It starts at Opera's browser before it leaves the client's machine.

            Dear Kmielczarczyk,

The version is 39.0.2256.71 and Yes...there is a "VPN" visible in "privacy and security" just where you said it would be....BUT that's the point I made in my initial post item above, #1. Sorry if I failed to be clear: the VPN option exists but serves no purpose as IT IS GRAYED OUT, and empty check box remains empty no matter how many times one cares to click it....it is grayed out-----meaning "not functional."

Maybe future versions will engage it....Hope so.

              Dear AVL,

Thank you for your comments. You knew detail I did not. I particularly like your last comment: "It [encryption] starts at Opera's browser before it leaves the client's machine."

              That's really good.

Lastly, do you happen to know who or what owns SurfEasy?

                Dear Kmielczarczyk,

I followed your lead and have updated to what you advised. Now have 40.0.2308.75 and yes...the bright people at Opera appear to have written one sweet VPN tool into their already great browser. That formerly elusive check box now engages.

                Thanks Kmielczarczyk, for your tip
