I was referring to the Opera account indeed, which can be in the Browser, on the website, etc. all being handled by the same authentication layer. A mobile sms confirmation code for unrecognized devices would be a good start.
To change your profile photo, click on your avatar at the top of the page and choose Edit profile - though I'm guessing you already did.
If you use Sync or these forums, you have to provide some information to register - your email address at minimum in order to allow you to reset your password should you forget it. No, Opera does not record your financial information or comparable private data - that would violate a number of laws.
Seems like this forum doesn't support BB, so I have to post this without spoilers.

@divisionbe I must disagree with you on that one.
The consent regarding email looks like this:
There is NOTHING here that mentions or "grants permissions" for promotional mail. If you feel differently, please point us to the specific sentence that bothers you, please.
Once again: Forums send two types of e-mails:
Digest emails - these are Forum's "here's what happened on Opera Forums since last day/week/month" updates. We do not send them unless you opt-in. Here's how it looks like for a fresh account (Profile > Settings):
Notification emails - these inform you about various events (people replying to your topics, sending you chat messages, mentions you, etc). Again, all opt-in:
You need to intentionally set this to Email only or Notification and email if you wish to receive e-mails about these events.
Use a descriptive and relevant title for new threads. Try to use at least three words in the thread title.
Be clear and concise when describing the problem. Be specific and remember to include important details, such as the exact error message or address of the site you're having trouble with.
