Opera for Android should add a setting in the options menu to automatically open all new sessions in private mode. The advantages of this are three-fold:
-
Although it is possible to use a custom launcher applet to manually launch the browser in private mode, with this option, users would be able to open links from other applications (especially search apps, like Google) directly into a private tab. Currently, this is not possible.
-
Opening all new sessions in private mode saves actions and smooths out the browsing experience for privacy-conscious users—since closing the app with only private tabs open wipes the session automatically, they won't need to manually exit the browser every time they end a session to wipe their browsing data.
-
This will also allow Opera to compete more effectively in the privacy-focused browser niche. Currently, among the major mobile browsers, only Firefox and Firefox Focus have this feature. Adding this feature would allow Opera to siphon more privacy-conscious users away from Mozilla's platforms.
