@bender716 Great idea! Directly thought this is possible when discover the workspace feature. It would be a big benefit when cookies can be handled separated to be logged in into a website with two accounts in one browser.

Some testers have said there are no plans to provide a standalone M3. It will be part of Vivaldi like M2 is part of Opera 12.
Yes, I read about this aspect. It would not be a problem for me. If the Mail Client in it is as great as M2, then I am happy also with an Browser aside.

Do you know Vivaldi?
There, is one of the "original" Opera's founder.
They are working on M3, the M2 (Opera Mail) "evolution".
I don't know if they will split it also from the browser, but it would be the update you want.I did not know Vivaldi. I read the page a few minutes ago the first time. Screenshots of browser UI look very familiar to me (as old Opera user).
There are a bunch of features and information on the Vivaldi page, but I only see a content about the browser itself. For me, I see no sign that they will build the Desktop Email Client like Opera Mail also (or have the Opera Mail Client fully integrated in their browser, which would be also Ok)But I will ask in that forum also. When I see the Vivaldi Browser UI, it seems the plan is to stick close to old Opera. So perhaps also "Opera Mail" integration will be on the list later. Thank you for that information!

@TimB Would you invest your money in something that very few people still use?
I run a much smaller company as Opera by myself. Your question can also be answered by knowing all the pros and cons, knowing what money these "few people" could bring in, how much the (tiny) team for making updates cost, how big the benefit (as side effect) for Opera Browser is, ... and much more...
In General: If I had a really great product, I wouldn't give it up easily. Not even if a second product of mine brings in a little more money, if some customer also loves the other product. (And if the staff for handling it would be available of course)Actually you could be right, that only a "very few people" use it. But as you said by yourself, we speak about a lot of years without development and (I guess) without making some advertisement. I don't know how much people use Opera Mail, but I can tell you that Opera Mail is still a great email client.
I also think, that the "team" for Opera Mail could be really small (tiny). We are speaking only about small enhancements. Also remember that Opera Mail runs several years without the needs of updates. And be aware, It could also help to attract more people to use Opera Browser of course. That's another good side effect. People who use Opera Mail (like me) will also often use Opera Browser (also like me).
I think it's a pity to abandon such a great Email Client.
Another idea could be to leave Opera Mail as Open Source to the Community. -

@TimB Opera Mail stopped being developed about seven years ago and there aren't any signals that it would be restarted.
2016 Opera Mail has got last security updates:
https://blogs.opera.com/security/2016/02/opera-12-and-opera-mail-security-update/But Ok, perhaps with "about seven years ago" you mean the main development and development of new features. Could be, that this is seven years ago.
In every case, too much years and I hope they give it a chance again.@cal5760 said in Opera Mail is still great. Continue development would be gorgeous:
I completely agree with OP, and I bet I am not the only one.
Thank you for supporting it.
Sadly that Opera team could not at least make a very, very small team available for continuing work on Opera Mail. It's such a pity, because it is (still) great.
I do not know many software which work such well after stopping development 4-7 years before. And having still very cool (and incredible fast and bug-free) features, which other (very pricey) corporate software is missing. -
Opera Mail is still great. Continue development would be gorgeousOpera for Windows
Hello,
I just want to drop a small notice, that Opera Mail is still such a great Email Client! Still! Also after years without development.
I am IT professional and even after these years of leaving without changes, Opera Mail is still my favorite Mail Client.
I have very, very big Email Accounts. And it's a wonder how fast searches in Opera Mail are. Also simple things like regex support for rules and labels are great, which big tools like outlook are missing.
The system for labels with regex support is incredible fast and index tons of emails in seconds. It's really great! But of course, starting support again and fixing some of the minor bugs would be best.
Also there could be some small improvements (like better "and" / "or" connection of rules and shift these "rule parts")You have made a really great Email Client! I is even stable and fast as hell after years without improvement. Would be be nice to show a very small engagement of support and updates for Opera Mail again.
You made the best, simple, Email Client on the market.
And I tried a lot of other tool! I am working with e.g. with Outlook in companies (of other people) often, but still loving Opera Mail much more! For IT professionals who need a stand alone email client which is incredible fast and which is doing things like it should, Opera Mail is still such a great tool.
Best regards
Tim
