RE: Lost Speeddial data after re-install of W10Opera for Windows
SOLVED !!!
Thank you lando242 and leocg !!!
The copying of items from the windows.old folder solved the problem, but I had to copy quite a few more files than expected. Nonetheless - I am now MUCH HAPPIER and still very much against Misery$soft for their absolute disregard for the every-day computer user who has spent countless hours adding to and refining their own PERSONAL computer to meet their SPECIFIC needs and not those DICTATED by Misery$soft.
I am supremely grateful for the help I received. I owe you both a drink or something.
HAPPY - HAPPY.

RE: Lost Speeddial data after re-install of W10Opera for Windows

RE: Lost Speeddial data after re-install of W10Opera for Windows
Thanks for your quick reply.
Yes, I found that file early on and it does export over to the current version, but no icons show. There is also a related file called Bookmarks Extra, along with Favicons - all are fairly large files. I have tried exporting them over from the shadow files and they do not work (no icons or links showing) or they crash Opera. So there must be something else that I haven't found. I've spent many hours on this one issue alone - I'm frustrated, to say the least.
I would think that there must be a away to view those file contents - haven't found such, though.

Lost Speeddial data after re-install of W10Opera for Windows
I had an persistent problem with Windows 10 and decided to re-install it. That was a BIG mistake!! I lost all of my non-Misery$oft programs, including Opera and ALL of my Speed dial and Bookmarks; of which there were many dozens - some of which are very important to me.
I have tried to recover them from a shadow copy, which shows a large amount of data related to Opera that differs considerably from the re-installed (latest) Opera. None of the variations I tried have worked - Opera crashes and I have to re-install it again. I even found and installed an earlier version of Opera that seemed more related to the data (34.0.2036.50) and copied over the shadow info - no luck.
As the data seems available, how can I restore my Speed dial and Bookmarks? Is there a way to look at the data itself?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Speed dial loading at Opera 27 startup...Opera for Windows
I also have the same problem with Speed Dial after updating to ver. 27 (slow rebuild of icons). Hope that they correct it soon - it's annoying for such a great browser to have a step backwards.

RE: Opera 24 and 25 completely freezes my pcOpera for Windows
My computer appears to freeze on occasion too >> BUT what I have noticed when this happens that the HDD light is solid ON. Even trying to do a CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to the Task Manager (TM) is difficult - takes a long time. So, what is going on here?
I notice that Opera has ELEVEN listings in the TM and a LOT of memory (collectively 310+MB) is being used >>> WHY? This is true even when you first start the program and with only the single basic tab showing. All of those are set for 'normal' priority according to the TM. BUT, Opera is decidedly THE cause for what appears to be a crash. If you are patient, the 100% disk access eventually - eventually - times out and things return to normal. Opera itself has NEVER crashed on my computer. I'm running version 25.0.1614.50.
I do not use Opera for e-mail or chats or anything but Internet browsing. I'm running WIN 8.1 64-bit on a relatively new Samsung all-in-one with 8GB RAM and lots of HDD space and it has NO other problems.
If I do not run Opera, I never see any other 100% disk usage except on startup.
Seems to me that Opera is over-riding ANY other function or access when this happens.
There is OBVIOUSLY an issue that needs to be found and resolved.
HELP!!!!!
