If you choose that too, you could complement it:

Use Launchy and run it from it. Would not work for multiple Opera Profiles. Delete Opera entry from Start Menu.

There is nothing in the options that allows you to double click and empty part of the bar and only a new tab. There may be an extension but I don't know of one.
