I had Win8.x & Opera worked flawlessly for me. Im now on Windows (10) Technical Preview & been using Opera since. Im not sure what the issue is that you mentioned but Im here to tell you its specific to YOU (and possibly others) since I didnt experience on my PC

My Opera just did its "Checking for updates" & did NOT find version 27.0.1689.2

Opera://flags/#experimental-start-page must be ENABLED. If not, enable it, restart Opera and see up-left in the Speed Dial. An Option saying ''Try out the new Start Page'' should appear.

in my previous comment I meant ENABLED, sorry for the confusion I may have caused. I really want the new Opera start page, Ive seen it online & I really like the look of it... PLEASE HELP ME!

Every time I login I get a message saying Synchronization servers are not available but Opera 24 sync'd with NO problem but now it doesn't work, I have all my settings the same

I have Opera 25 & I keep seeing these posts about a new speed dial page & a button to switch to it...

I dont have said button & Ive also disabled the setting in opera://flags for the "new speed dial" & nothing changed on a reboot. Heres a screen-shot of my Opera:

DirectWrite IS the culprit I enabled it to test this thread & yea it's DirectWrite... it should be disabled by default or they should change its name to something resembling the word "bold"

Thats the one! I thought it might be a button to activate Metro mode but I thought wrong... besides I dont think with Windows 10 (Tech Preview) that there is a need for a metro version seeing as metro apps now run on the desktop but thank you for telling me

I recently updated & I see there is a new icon next to the minimize/maximize/close buttons that looks like another maximize button but when I click on it nothing happens... What does it do, whats its purpose?

Ok, I solved my problem: I went into "opera://flags/" & disabled "Experimental text input focus manager." Now I'm having no issues

Ive been using Opera for YEARS & it was working fine until O24 (Stable). FOr some reason I have difficulty typing in the address bar, Ive had to resort to using IE11 to search & do most typing related things. Ive also experienced this on bing.com... at times I can't type in ANY sort of text box: Address bar, this message box, anything, it won't work.

Did I mess up a setting?
What's going on?

I am experiencing the same issue. I, as the original poster, am on Windows 8.x & earlier today I installed Opera Beta (to test it) & it asked me if I wanted to set Opera as the default browser but Opera Stable was not in the list (Opera beta was tho...)

I have IE11 set as my default for the "Metro conveniences" that come with setting IE as such. The only way I can set Opera Stable as the default browser is by navigating to "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs" through File Explorer... Fix it Opera?

I have an android phone but its a LOW end android, I cant download Opera Mini 8, I mean I can get Opera Mini 7.5.3 from the play store but I cant get 8. My gf has a shitty phone & SHE was able to get it on hers - hers isnt an android, I liked the interface of OM8 so I would like to get it on MY phone. Like I said: Im a low end android so I cant use the new Opera Browser on my phone, I can Use Mobile Classic but thats not FANCY enough for me

Get over it, this is the same BS I hear about people switching from Win7 to 8/8.1 - Times changes & so do other things so deal with it. If you were a loyal Opera user you wouldnt complain but embrace this new change.

Yes, I was slightly disappointed when I lost some customization but I've grown past it. I use Opera on Windows 8.1 & have used Opera since I first found out about it through my phone & I LOVE IT. Faster, better, more ME. If u wanna put a custom BG on ur speed dial then find where Opera saves the themes, open one in some sort of zip opening program, add a new picture to that folder (w/the same name as the original one) then rezip the folder & overwrite the original... I have a custom BG & this is how I achieved it.

Grow up, if you were a TRUE Opera fan you'd stick w/it & not bitch about things changing, EVENTUALLY Opera plans to implement all the old features into this new engine but they gotta figure out exactly how to do it with Chromium - remember they're limited to what Chromium allows them to do.

So, either stick with Opera like the rest of us or move on... Were all so tired of people coming here & complaining about the new Opera.
Idk about the rest of the forum members but I use Opera as my default browser (my gf uses Chrome) and I refuse to use the Windows alternative [IE] I switched her over cuz IE was being REALLY slow
