Opera 12.17 is still a great browser, and I keep using it. But there is a increasing number of sites that don't work well in it (or don't work at all)

Opera 24 is based on a different "platform", and it seems they are working a lot to make it better. But IMHO there's much to do to reach the older version level.

I don't understand why this information isn't provided when you check for updates in 12.17. Seems simple to do (but I'm not a programmer) and the most correct option.

I "discovered" the new version almost by accident, and I'm working with both (in my case the new installation (v 24) kept unaltered the older one (v 12) and that's good, mostly because the new one don't have (yet, some say) a fine bookmark manager, relying on third-party "Extensions")

That's something i'll like to know too, because Link is one of the most useful features for me (linking my bookmarks between office and home)

blackbird71, I fully agree with you, and adopt the same attitude. Unfortunately some software designers don't...
I periodically look for new processes in my system, and many are auto-updates. I only keep those that has the option to inform me first that an update exists, allowing me to check first if i want to install it.
And never, never install it on the first day Give it a week, and then check the Net for problems.

rclund, I mind about improvements and bug fixes, but mind a lot more about having control over what's running on my computer. I prefer to choose when to check for updates, so I disabled it using CCleaner, and, just to be sure, renamed the .exe
I don't use the Mail program, but your comment reinforces my opinion that there's a LOT to do to make this new Opera stand to the reputation earned by it's predecessor.

Not everybody likes tab previews. I consider them anoying.
I'm glad they added the option to disable it.

Most softwares ask, during install, if autoupdate should be on or off.
Opera should do the same.
Worst, this option simply doesn't exist, forcing users to disable it "by force"...
