Does this version "secretly" run in the background, even when it appears I've closed it? I use a cleaner to empty all cookies, web history, etc and close all programs on my laptop, and for some reason, it shows Opera still open and won't function until I give permission to close Opera. Why has this started happening recently?

RE: Did youtube just cancel out Opera's downloader?Opera for Windows
@robertopanetto just went to savefrom dot net and found the termination notice:
Subject: Discontinuation of Service in the United States
April 16, 2020
Dear Savefrom User:
As you may have heard, our industry has been under strenuous attacks by certain US copyright holders. Because of these attacks, it has become financially impractical for Savefrom to continue to provide services in the United States.
Accordingly, Savefrom will be terminating its services in the United States as of April 28, 2020.
We thank you for your past loyalty and patronage and wish you health and safety during the present health crisis and beyond.
Very truly yours,
Savefrom -
RE: Did youtube just cancel out Opera's downloader?Opera for Windows
@ceedee of course it doesn't work... unless you type .com after yahoo -- i figured you would add that yourself. Someone else's post above mentions another download site. dunno if that site works but i'll try it if the stand-alone i found stops working... which it might, since it does say "not activated" every time i use it. A bit slow as well; took 2 minutes to d/L a 30 min. video.

@ceedee write me - jpom222@yahoo - don't wanna publicize it here.

RE: Did youtube just cancel out Opera's downloader?Opera for Windows
@leocg yes, thank you. don't know why I thought the downloader was provided by Opera... regardless, I believe the addon came with the latest version, when I updated a few years ago. I found an excellent vid d/L-er that works great... just tested it and will be using that from now on. .mp4 is clear as a bell!

@ceedee thank you for responding. So savenet worked in 2 ways, then? sometimes the green arrow icon (just below the video) brought a drop down, to select several choices of file types to save as, and other times brought you to the savenet website, to download from there? it was all the same facility? ...not that it matters much now, since it's all gone away.

RE: Opera Music Player with Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube MusicBlogs
@donjey that's what ya get for using apple and not microsoft. but seriously, youtube has almost every song that's ever been recorded. and beautiful Opera lets us download almost all youtube content. I use audacity to record anything my laptop will play.

RE: Opera Music Player with Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube MusicBlogs
@leocg
sorry, i was sure i had started a new thread but apparently not. but pretty sure chrome is not just a word, in this -- chrome://flags/#player-service -- for instance, Internet Explorer isn't just a browser and actually runs a bunch of things behind everything else i'm using on my laptop... so perhapes chrome browser does the same thing. i always swear i'm going full bore linux because windows is just too fkn annoying... but then i chicken out. ah well. -

@raphael-mioche
my question had nothing to do with the new music player and for the record, i avoid chrome whenever possible. but thnx anyway -
RE: Opera Music Player with Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube MusicBlogs
I've been seeing notice that Opera is no longer supporting Adobe FlashPlayer. I'm wondering what will happen when I click on YouTube videos. Any help would be vastly appreciated.

Video downloader extension gone with the wind?Opera add-ons
One of the best things about Opera seems to have disappeared. I have the SaveNet thing but the video downloader was 20 times easier, faster and hassle-free. Oh well.

RE: Drag and drop URLs from Opera Address bar to desktop (or another folder)Suggestions and feature requests
Bravo! A very deep and intellectually stimulating exercise, probly wasted on the bipolar knuckle-headed "moderator" here but a gallant attempt to enlighten said individual nonetheless. Well done, sir.

RE: Drag and drop URLs from Opera Address bar to desktop (or another folder)Suggestions and feature requests
@disasterman - obviously that person knows how the world should be much better than we lowly mortals do. but to the question at hand, i've never seen an answer to this in the 14+ years i've used opera, on and off. i mostly use Seamonkey, also designed by Mozilla. not as many bells and whistles but fast, streamlined and has drag and drop URL capability.

RE: Drag and drop URLs from Opera Address bar to desktop (or another folder)Suggestions and feature requests
when you find a page you wish to see often, or as soon as you start your computer, it's very convenient to have the link right there on your desktop - to create that link, all other browsers permit you to simply drag and drop the link on your desktop. opera does not, for some crazy reason.
does that help? -
RE: Drag'n'drop URL to desktop not availableOpera for Windows
it's inconceivable how the developers could overlook such an important feature THAT WAS THERE IN PREVIOUS VERSIONS! it's a deal-breaker for most of us - just ludicrous!
