No, according to the knowledgeable people review, AppLocker is not on par with SRP.
There is just a lot of MS's spin about the AL.(Unfortunately the article is in Russian)

Another interview with Jon von Tetzchner, which appeared today in the German magazine c't'.
It contains some information about the changes at the company, and the switch to Opera 15.
...I also noticed he said, he wanted to take MyOpera over but they did not allow.
This definately means - they will not release Presto/Caracan code so that his new start-up could use it...
This is the most sad part of the interview...

RE: the problem as i see itOpera for Windows
It is silly to expect security from any software while running an undisciplined OS configuration.
No AV will save if you work as an administrator.Here are the simple rules:
1) administrator's account is used solely to perform administrative tasks - and NEVER for everyday jobs;
2) software restriction policies (similar to those) must be implemented;
3) all available OS-hardening measures (DEP, ASLR, SEHOP, etc) must be enabled;
4) all current patches installed for OS and usable software;
5) non-administrative account (LUA) must be used for everyday jobs;
6) safe HEX must be followed.The current Opera's (v12.16) efforts to "secure" the search engines are futile - provided the enough clever root-kit is already running on the client's machine.
As of me - I'm not using those anti-somethings since I've installed winXP-PRO in the I-already-forgot-which-year-it-was.
Regular forensics (by the MS's file checksum checker launched off a LiveCD) prove I still was not hit by a malware so far.
My understanding of the SaveHEX includes using Opera Presto instead of any other - inferior - browsers. - Opera for Windows

There is good and bad to everything, even to the soon closure of these forums - this will put an end to the pitiful leushino's public self-humiliation. -

It is a clear progression in terms of user security since it prevents malware from hijacking the user's search engine. When they have found a safe solution, they will again allow users to set their own default search engine.
This puzzles me.
For many years with Opera I never ever had my search engine selection hijacked - apart from the Opera v12.15/Opera v12.16 incident.May be because I was protected by some sort of magic?!
No, it was very simple - I never did my everyday jobs from an administrative account - I always use the NON-administrative, least-privileged user account.
This policy saves me from all sorts of attacks - no malware has hit me ever.And Opera's insistence in not fixing this v12.15/v12.16 "bug" tells a lot - they do not care about user's privacy anymore...

Not really.
Look for your content blocking settings. Did you add anything to the "hosts" file (to block any third-party content)?

As I do not have YT account I cannot "vote" anyway, but I still can watch video there and preview thumbnails are visible/clickable, comments readable also.

The "HowTo" breaks Google search and is unnecessary to make Ixquick the default search engine. So how can it be considered helpful?
I do not notice any downsides as to how Opera v12.16b1860 behaves now.
Both the StartPage and the IxQuick work just fine.Even with the "Google2011 Location Provider" field empty the Google Maps work for me. I do not use any other google stuff.
