Here is a safer way to keep the two separate:
Open the file “Opera 12.app/Contents/Info.plist”. Find the Bundle ID and change from “com.operasoftware.Opera” to “com.operasoftware.OldOpera”. The OS will no longer have a problem telling them apart.
