I see nothing much has changed.. Using my older opera mini it can't even open simple website "www.voip-pal.com", so I finally downloaded a new opera mini (still keeps asking me every single day to try it, with a huge ad which I have to navigate around or click on "later". Stupid pain is the ass. I already have it) and the new opera mini, after all these years, can't even open that very simple & basic website. Seems pitiful to me. What's the problem? As has been the case for years now (lost count on how many years), there are other sites that won't open as well & numerous sites that won't open properly or fully or fully functional. What kind of supposedly worldwide use, developed for years browser (android) can't even open simple website? All I get is a blank page. I see also from the above comments that there is still the same old issues with downloading. I gave up on opera mini years ago bcuz of that. Can't believe it's still a big issue. Wow. If the above issues are inherent somehow in the type of browser it is, then I think there should be a bug header that says: sorry but please be aware that opera mini, due to its general makeup, is not able to open all websites & is not able to download much in many cases. I also know something else.. As I became very frustrated w/opera mini years ago for the above reasons, I used to report that I had no such issues w/uc browser. Then uc browser also started to compress for big data savings, same as opera mini, and guess what?..... it STILL works to open any website I have ever tried to open & still downloads anything ever tried. These issues have been present for me, throughout numerous versions & several android phones, for several yrs now. Hard to understand all these new, improved (supposedly) versions after versions (so many I've lost count) and I still can't go to numerous websites. Also, I see that although there is a couple responses from some helpers above, still for the most part, most questions & complaints go unanswered like it always was here. Also, when I came here to make this post, I have to scroll & scroll from oldest to newest comments to get to them. Well, I'm glad there seems to be some ppl who like & enjoy opera mini usage. I don't get it? Since I only rarely come here, if anyone has any useful reply, plz send to Nowurtalkin222@yahoo.com unless there is a notification process bcuz I forgot this forum even exists anymore & only found it bcuz I was scratching around for some tweak to get it to open www.voip-pal.com. It scrolled me back up to the top and so I scrolled back down here AGAIN (ugh) and see my comment did not post. Same ol shit for yrs. Can't even open simple website "www.voip-pal.com". Etc etc. Tried new opera mini also & same thing. O well. Years go by same crap. Pitiful

Allright... I keep getting msg's about how opera link thing is going away. I find the msg & this forum very confusing. All I have is this phone, nothing else. I want to keep my bookmarks, saved pages, speedials, downloads, etc. Do I need to do anything to keep them or am I all set the way I am? What about backups of these things? Also, I have mini 7.6 something. I remember getting a msg about mini 8 but I refrained because the reviews didn't sound too good at the time. Now I come here & see its up to 12. Holy shit, how'd that happen. I have android phone htc desire 816. It has 4.4. I didn't upgrade to 5.0 again because it sounded like it might cause me problems. Should I update to mini 12 or what?

I wrote a long explanation of my issues, after not coming here for a long time & being pretty lost about a couple things....and I hit send or whatever it says & bam, my post is gone & does not show here. Same ol crap as before...

Do you know where or if I can get/see those files from my old, non root, phone? It is unbelievable to me that so many ask this same question or have the same issue of not being able to restore precious saved pages & yet no answers from the knowledgeable ones here, nor any answers from OM employees. There should be a sticky addressing it & it should be #1, but instead all these ppl just get ignored & to my knowledge were never advised that this would happen.

I just switched phones. Got my bookmarks & some of speed dials. Is there anyway for me to get my saved pages?

It's a downright pitiful situation. Been going downhill & getting worse & worse in that regard for yrs for me across several phones & currently I find the MAJORITY of urls either blocked (or otherwise can't open) or non functional to one degree or another. Pretty sad they allow this to be. Can't use yahoo. Can't use eBay. And many many more. Horrible. What's the point of having it (at least that's how it is on 2 versions of Android for me for last several yrs)?

I agree that opera minis main purpose is data compression & I don't believe u can turn it off in Android. I believe one of the mobile versions of opera you can turn on/off, like turbo or something, so just look into the versions (I got too confused by too many different versions at the same time) & install.

To be fair, I just also checked data usage for my UC browser acct. The total savings, based on approx 44GB of usage is approaching 82%. So the point is that they both save roughly the same amt of data, but UC browser does far far more functionality, as a browser. And my guess is, that if compression/data savings were the most important consideration (not for me, but for many, it is..) that the use of UC mini would likely exceed that of opera mini.

1st of all, this is about opera mini, not opera 22 off-road or any else, opera mini only..

2ndly, as a blatant statement of fact, it's incorrect, because I just checked mine ((total- for a long tim) & it's 85%, not 90. Not that that isn't great, but it's not 90. I'm pretty sure that opera mini claims "up to 90" & if so, it would never average 90, as you incorrectly state. Doesn't make sense..

On if browser, it's about the same or higher. Someone earlier suggested that is only maybe true for UC mini, but that's not the case, as I have never had UC mini. It's near 90% w/full UC browser & default settings, that I am getting. I also am currently downloading a music show, on UC browser & on next browser, w/resume function. And on UC, you can stream it as well. None of that is even remotely possible on Opera Mini. If I hit the download button on Opera Mini, it instantly fails every single time. It's useless except maybe for certain tiny files.

• the main reason you use such a low performance "browser" is for the data compression which saves your data usage. That's how you get more data. Uploads & downloads are not compressed I don't believe, so you wouldn't see any savings there.
