I face the same problem intermittently. Internet is on in other browsers including Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers but off only in Opera (I'm using the latest 64 bit beta version). After a day or so, the problem goes away automatically and connection is back in Opera. The problem then reoccurs at some other time.

So where the heck would I find the update package for Opera 12.17... or any other update version?
Maybe I should "fake" a download of it and see it's file-name and then I could search my computer for it.

Try deleting your %temp% directory. I think it may erase the update too.

YOU NAILED IT BIGTIME......

Yup the update files in the %temp% folder were responsible for attempting to update Opera all the time. I didn't deleted the folder... I just renamed the 3 update files and inserted the word DISABLED ino their names.

Thank you for the suggestion... I would not have thought about that on my own!
