ok i managed to fix the issue by trying this method posted by @AokoG

i was always initiating the process of connecting the flow from the side bar. (don't do that)
- Goto to your Android phone ..start connect to flow, wait for the QR-Code Screen to scan
- Goto http://opera.com/connect on your Desktop pc ( a QR-code will show up)
- Scan the Code from your mobile
both screens should show 6 Digit codes now
To make sure this worked, I disconnected and connected twice to verify. I sent msgs...pc to phone and vice versa. Both were received
