Aria and DeepseekLounge
As Opera has a Chinese majority owner, will we see that Aria will cooperate with Deepseek rather than Open AI and Google in the near future?

RE: Vivaldi users here?Lounge
@Leighsong Interesting post, thank you. Actually, two things keep me from using Vivaldi:
-
They have no Aria, they are even against AI
-
They are such a small time. I don’t trust them to have the ressources for building a secure and working browser. They had a sync outing that lasted nearly three weeks in December. Can’t imagine this would happen to a bigger outlet, though.

RE: Is Opera Chrome?Lounge
Opera, Edge, Brave and Vivaldi - all of them use Chromium. The only alternative are Gecko based browsers, the most prominent of which is Firefox, and WebKit based ones like Apple‘s Safari.
Obviously building a rendering engine can’t be done by one small independent company. Heck, even Microsoft gave in and uses Chromium. Which is an Open Source project that‘s led by Google. -
Ad blocker blocks next to nothing on some sitesGeneral
As the heading already says. I'm using the inbuilt adblocker on Opera and it seems to me, that - at least on this particular site: www.spiegel.de - it actually doesn't block anything:
There's hardly any blank spot on this page but it's almost totally surrounded by ads. Although it says it has 28 ads and 38 trackers.
I'm not against ads generally, as sites have to make a living. But that's an annoying mess here. Or they are as a leading news site in Germany are particularly clever in overruling blocking. -
RE: Opera 118 developerBlogs
@burnout426 It’s different, if you choose to take some lighter shade, On yellow or orange it’s definitely better than on blue or green. You can also take a lighter blue or green to have a stronger contrast with the black letters. It‘s simply the accent colors I would gess.

RE: how to get in touch with the developers of the original Opera browserLounge
@screenTapper I don't know, what you consider as the "original" Opera browser.
Opera is still Opera although it has changed and evolved over the years to become what it is now, for better or worse.
Sill, some see the Vivaldi browser (vivaldi.com) as the "real" successor of what you might call the original Opera. It was developed by part of the team that left Opera Software in disagreement over the future course.
So I'd say, that Opera is still the original Opera, but changed. Vivaldi is somehow something like a spiritual heir as it is more like the earlier Opera of the 00s and early 10s in design and layout, including a mail client. -
RE: Bad requestDeutsch
Bei mir öffnet es ohne Probleme. Hast du es mal mit dem Ausschalten des Adblockers probiert oder im privaten Fenster?

RE: Good to have Opera in comparison to the restLounge
@erdinc53 Vivaldi is some way or another what one may call the "spiritual heir" of the old Opera. Which doesn't automatically mean, that it is better. But I get, that some people are looking for something like it.
Vivaldi has a really good reputation. They've never been involved in a scandal and you can customize so much in it. It's of course by some of the original development team of Opera.
I also get what you're saying about the "wood". In Vivaldi there's almost too much to adjust. And, actually, I wouldn't want to have an email client in a browser, let alone a calendar. In my opinion they maybe have wasted precious time when including that. But some were very happy to get it.
To be honest some years ago I used Vivaldi for a while. But it was a resource hog then and made my PC becoming wild. And it didn't play well with my ISP for some reason.
Since then I'm a very happy user of Opera. Although I take a look here and there - still coming back here.
Thank you so much for this kind and friendly exchange of thoughts. -

@erdinc53 But Kunlun Tech from Beijing is still majority owner. You can read in the annual reports e.g.

Good to have Opera in comparison to the restLounge
As a long time user of Opera, I'm very happy that it exists and hopefully will in the future.
Although I like to try different browsers I keep coming back to Opera for a reason. It's still the one I like the most and has the features I need.
I've tried Chrome which is decent and easy. But it lacks some of the refined features Opera has.
I've tried Edge which isn't bad, really. Maybe even my alternative if there were no Opera. But still, Edge is just do Microsoftish for me and pushing its services just too hard on the user.
I've tried Vivaldi which is a wonderful niche browser with so many features and options. But whenever I tune it to my needs, it looks very much like my Opera set up which is more fluent and straight. And I'm missing Aria in it, really. Otherwise very decent browser and decent people developing it.
I've tried Brave. Well, it's fast and clean, almost too clean. I don't mind Crypto as you can easily disable it. But I often get the impression that it's a browser for Crypto first and anything else comes second. And I don't like its take on Google as they are heavily reliant on Chromium which although Open Source is mainly from Google.
Last, I've tried Firefox. It's a nice browser. But it lacks the sidebar and I run into incompatibilities now and then. So, I'd rather stick to Opera.I don't think, Opera is perfect. I'd like them to upgrade quicker to recent Chromium updates just for security reasons. And I still would like there not being a Chinese company holding the majority stakes on the company.
Still, they have my trust, though. And I will stay with Opera as long as I won't be disappointed.

First impression is very good. Thank you for this new update. And I'm looking forward to having more recent Chromium versions in the stable branch.

RE: Spotify stops playingGeneral
@menudale3 It's fixed with the update to Opera 116. Now, it works as expected.

RE: Spotify stops playingGeneral
On my MacBook it's working as expected. Clicking on the Spotify in the sidebar doesn't stop the music.

RE: Spotify stops playingGeneral
@leocg said in Spotify stops playing:
@McTesch What is the behavior when you open Spotify in a regular tab?
Well, I don't think, that this has any effect. When you open it in a regular tab, the sidebar app let alone the web player are even touched by it. To Spotify it appears as another device, showing the typical green line on the bottom saying: you're playing a Chrome webplayer.

Spotify stops playingGeneral
I'm having an issue with Spotify lately. I haven't come across this phenomenon before.
Whenever I start playing Spotify in the sidebar, independent of using the webplayer widget or not, it stops playing when I click on the icon in the sidebar.
Typical user case: You hear music in the background that you want to see more about. You go to the sidebar to open it. Before it just continued to play, but as of today it stops.
I've made a clean install with a brand new profile. Any idea about it? Thanks a lot.
