@jimunderscorep I got it to work but in an unorthodox way. A package containing the missing codecs can be found at link text. It's an rpm package that contains only one file, libffmpeg.so. On my system I had to copy it to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera/

I don't know what the result would be in case the shared object and the rest of Opera are build with different versions of GCC or different compilers altogether.

Ignoring what accuradio says about flash not being installed, I think its because they all use html5 to play their video/audio and opera's built libffmpeg fails to play them. BBC's site uses html5 for its videos and I am 110% sure about it.

So, please take a moment to read some other thread about opera's poor html5 support and what you can do to make it better, because I do not want to write the same things over and over again.

Finally, if mx linux is debian based as distrowatch says, there is nothing you can do to improve opera because debian does not build chromium ffmpeg codecs, so you'd better use another browser for these sites.

Thanks for your help. MX is indeed based on debian. If I don't use MX's debian package but instead install the deb package from Opera website will that make a difference? Or is it the same package anyway?

Any web site that requires flash (AccuRadio, BBC World News, etc.) has an issue with latest Opera. I am using MX Linux 17. I tried the same version of Opera on Windows 10 and it works fine. I used other browsers on linux like Chrome and Firefox and they play flash videos fine. Flash player is installed on my linux system.

Any suggestions?
