Ignoring what accuradio says about flash not being installed, I think its because they all use html5 to play their video/audio and opera's built libffmpeg fails to play them. BBC's site uses html5 for its videos and I am 110% sure about it.
So, please take a moment to read some other thread about opera's poor html5 support and what you can do to make it better, because I do not want to write the same things over and over again.
Finally, if mx linux is debian based as distrowatch says, there is nothing you can do to improve opera because debian does not build chromium ffmpeg codecs, so you'd better use another browser for these sites.
Thanks for your help. MX is indeed based on debian. If I don't use MX's debian package but instead install the deb package from Opera website will that make a difference? Or is it the same package anyway?
