FYI, on Windows 8.1, system completely up to date, Panda Cloud AV, EEK anti-MAL, Zone Alarm Firewall.
More investigation by myself yesterday after posting seemed to point to bad DNS from my ISP, SaskTel. Perusing their outages messages, a few days ago all internet was down in area and modem restart recommended.
Restarted both modem and router and seems to have solved problem, Opera working just fine now.
Again, thank you for helpful suggestions.
