Yea, you were right, the last scoped_dir that was left in my downloads folder is from April 30th, now I tested it and new scoped dirs are removed after closing the browser.
So a workaround is in effect, now we shall wait for a proper fix

I'll have to check precisely later, but I remember having to clean up scoped_dirs about 2 weeks ago and now I see some new folders. Maybe one of the updates silently introduced a workaround...

For what I understood from this topic, the folders and files are temporary and are removed when Opera is closed.
They're not temporary, they're persistent even after closing the browser.

I really wish an Opera developer would at least tell us if the problem was acknowledged.
Maybe they don't see it as a problem?
A browser causing several gigabytes of free space being filled out with duplicate files -
how could they possibly not classify it as a "problem" or a "bug"? -
RE: scoped_dir folders in downloads directoryOpera for Windows
The issue the OP noted has been occurring since last February/March... it is an opera issue.
If anything, Opera is sand-boxing the downloaded container when a user executes the container within opera downloads.
There's nothing to be concerned about, just delete the scopeddir* folder and it's contents. The original file you downloaded will still be in the location you downloaded the file to.
The contents of the scopeddir* folder is just a copy of the original file you downloaded, explicitly when you executed the file through Opera. That's the thing, it's been almost a year this thread has been created, and I myself remember using a bug report form twice...
Yea we know we can just remove these directories, but it's not something we, users, should be doing... Especially when you're downloading a lot, then you may get confused about why is the size of the downloads folder doubled.I really wish an Opera developer would at least tell us if the problem was acknowledged.

Crap. It worked like a charm...
After restarting my browser 2x it just comes back again. Even though stuff was set to read onlyOh, that's true. After a few reboots the workaround stopped working for me as well. Great...

There is a way to change the letter assignments but its a pain in the butt. Give this a shot:
- Go to opera://about to learn your paths
- Close the browser
- Copy siteprefs.json from %installation-root%\profile to %installation-root%%opera-version%\resources
- In %installation-root% remove default_partner_content.json then rename siteprefs.json* to **default_partner_content.json and set read-only access on it
- Remove default_partner_content.json from %installation-root%\profile
This will blow out all of the built-in search engines except Google, which is a hardcoded fallback. You can now use any of the previously used letters for custom search engines. You can't make any of them your default search engines, though.
Thank you but I'm unable to find the "profile" folder in my installation directory. There are only two folders with different Opera version, and also "Assets" and "old_status".
EDIT: Nvm, it wasn't in %installation-root%, it was in a profile path (for the first and last path in these instructions). Now it works, thank you! A lot of work to turn off such a silly feature

Oh, and search suggestions disappeared from the search bar (not the address bar!).
Well, long time since I tried Vivaldi, got to switch to it again I guess -

Yes, I'm having the same exact issue after my browser updated to Opera 40! I'm used to regularily visiting same websites by typing their first letter in the address bar and pressing Enter. Now that Opera shows search engines first, for most websites (which just happen to start with b , d and g) I can no longer do that anymore.
Please tell me it can be disabled somewhere... I can't find it anywhere in settings, maybe I'm looking wrong. - Opera for Windows

Opera hangs for a few seconds when loading a Google Docs documentOpera for Windows
Whenever I'm trying to load a document on Google Docs (19 pages, mostly text/tables, only a few pictures), the browser hangs or like 10 seconds. After that, the document loads correctly. When I refresh the page, the lag doesn't occur but when I close the tab and open the same document on a new one, it hangs again. It's quite irritating and I'm not sure if there's any way to prevent that. Any ideas?
