Bug, definitely reportable 
We're looking into improving UX by showing a unobtrusive "Draft saved" whenever a draft is... you know, saved. But yes, it is all done behind the scenes at the moment.

In a pinch you can edit the template in the ACP to fix the link. However it does sound like a bug so we'll address it as well.
