@burnout426 It shouldn't happen at all !! It's annoying and intrusive.

It can be stopped temporarily by renaming opera_gx_splash.exe but that's only until the next update - Opera's sloppy update process simply recreates a new version number folder with a new opera_gx_splash.exe but leaves the old version folders intact. Sloppy.

Currently looking for something else (besides Chrome, Ffox, Edge all of which are now jumping on the in-your-face trumpet fanfare bandwagon Lookit me, I've just updated myself

@forge9 Only way to stop it is to find the file opera_gx_splash.exe and rename it (just add .xxx to the end). That will stop it for the current version, but next update... new version number folder, new opera_gx_splash.exe file.

You won't be able to stop it permanently, Opera's sloppy update process leaves the old folder version number behind, creates a new version number folder with the offending file that creates this abominable annoyance.

The sloppy update process of just creating another version number folder has nothing to do with storage space (minimal effect) but it makes for an untidy directory structure with multiple unused out-of-date folders.

Can no longer put up with the intrusive, invasive, indiscrete and just downright annoying blaring trumpet fanfare just because Opera has done nothing more than should be expected, that is providing a program update.

And the sloppy programming practice of creating a new version folder for each update makes for an bloated untidy Program Files/Opera sub-folder structure.

Enough is enough.
