Since the new updates were messing my bookmarks and experience with opera, I installed an older version and disable the auto update.
Finally, I got it working fine with all my data there. Although, suddenly without any new update/change after a few days my passwords disappeared. None were listed under the password section. I tried to import from a previous export (excel file) i made with opera just in case, but despite saying "over 200 passwords were imported successfully", still none are displayed and none can be used to autofill.

How can I recover them and how can i make opera recognize its own password excel file?

@mm-sec his solution worked for me. No uninstalling, just updating to the version he linked. Be careful because that is temporary, the auto updater will do it again, you have to disable it. He provides also a solution which i hadn't tried yet, and i have seen more around. Let's see if we are able to disable the updater...

@danielderstolle where can i find it? I have been checking in Opera software/opera Stable and the only update file i can find it is a notepad, which is blank

I had the same issue...I have lost precious and needed information/data regarding my job and my next exams....I had to read forums and tried several "solutions" (The "deleting default folder" didn't workout for me) until I solved. Vaguely and temporarily, since i had to install an old version, and now I'm starting a crusade to find an easy and comprehensively way to disable auto update. How difficult is to provide an option in settings to do it????

I have had some bugs/slight problems with opera lately, just a nuance that hopely gets solved eventually, no problem. But this is not annoying, it is scary. Scary how you can lost all your data involuntarily.

Be sure to delete/rename the autoupdate file in the opera folder and launch opera installer with the " --launchopera=0" parameter.

Mate, thanks!!. After reading how to delete the default, do this and do that...definitely It worked. Lost quite important info with last auto update
