In my case, I use the MVPS custom hosts file, though there are others such as hpHosts. These typically black-list thousands of malware, advertising, and tracking sites that will automatically be blocked by Windows, so that they simply don't ever appear in a browser. These hosts files can easily be updated (typically every month or so), so they can be kept quite current.

It is a genius idea. I tried the MVPS hosts. It sort of solved my problem, at least there is no flashing video and gif ads any more. The wording ads on website and search engine still exist. Maybe I should try to detect which url they are from.
