Hmmm, the current 37.* versions wont run on Windows XP. It installs without any error.
The Beta 36.* and Stable 35.* branches continue to do so.
Does anyone else have problem with Developer 37.* on Windows XP?

It's possibly the Bookmarks file is corrupt - where did you "recover" it from?
If renaming the file to Bookmarks and placing it in the relevent folder doesn't work (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Opera Software\Opera Stable), then you could be out of luck.
thanks for the reply but im not sure how to actually go about doing the aforementioned task. additionally, it seems a little concerning that the option of "bookmarks importer" is grayed out and uclickable..http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s386/poopydonkey/oprealol_zps5f59b524.png?t=1394959745
a clearer explanation of how to go about executing your initial advice would be great - or just tell me a way to activate the bookmark import option. thanks!
(For Windows XP):
Navigate to:
Documents & Settings>"Your Computer Name">Local Settings>Application Data>Google>Chrome>User Data>Default
Copy the "Bookmarks" file (Right-click on it>Copy).
Then in the relevent Opera profile folder, right-click>Paste.
