There's an extension called Zoom Slider that allows increase zoom or decrease in one percent increments.
It's exactly what I've been looking for. Try it out.
Just tried it out. It's better than nothing, still not as good as the original in old opera where I could put it where I want and just spinning the wheel is all is necessary. This one is click, spin wheel, click again to dismiss
