Opera 30.0, sadly, did not provide improvements for me.
So stick with Opera 12. Its insecure and unable to render some web pages but you are still using Windows XP so I doubt security and compatibility is a feature set you care about. The new Opera wont have removed the old one and they can live together on a system without issue. So you have lost nothing.
crashing without warning or explanation.
If you are interested in finding out why feel free to post the event viewer entry for the crash. Just saying it crashed with no other information is not nearly enough details to get any real help from.

So you are just here to whine, not get help. The devs don't get out here much and what you post here probably wont influence them in any way. This is a user forum. You want help with Opera feel free to post again. If you're just here to grumble please don't waste everyones time. We get a couple of people a week posting basically the exact same stuff and its not productive for anyone.
