I have been unable to store any Opera emails in a format that can be retrieved, which is a bit of a disaster because I use it for business purposes. So I am now printing them all. Neither the '.MBS', 'generic .mb' or 'all files .' format work. When I click on supposedly saved files I am taken to a blank Opera screen saying 'no file selected' or words to that effect. How do I 'save' or 'save as' an email in a format that can be read by Opera and/or copied to my business colleagues who are using other email software ?
How to Export Messages in Opera.
When you save a single message as an mbs file, edit it with a text edit and remove the first line (the "From ") line. Then, change the file's extension to .eml and you'll have an email file that other programs can use. But, for Thunderbird, there's an import/export tools extension that supports importing mbs files.
In Opera Mail that's in Opera 12.x, you can goto "alt + p -> advanced -> downloads" and edit the message/rfc822 mime type and add the eml extension to it. Then, when you compose a message and attach an eml file to it, users of other mail clients will receive it in a way where they'll be able to open it up and save it etc. To do the same thing in Opera Mail, you'll need to have the handlers.ini file that Opera 12.x has (after you modify the message/rfc822 type and close Opera) that Opera 12.x has in its preferences directory and have the protocol version sections in operaprefs.ini in Opera Mail's operaprefs.ini.
