@dantemarshal I use an add on called "Open link in same tab, pop-up as tab", which is available for Chrome and Edge, and of course, you can install the Chrome one into Opera.

Is there any update on this? Internet Explorer had this function 10 years ago, but still missing from Opera.

In Internet Explorer, go to Internet Options > General > Tabs > then you get the question:

When a pop-up is encountered:

• Let Internet Explorer decide how pop-ups should open
• Always open pop-ups in a new window
• Always open pop-ups in a new tab
