I have been auto updating my Opera browser for years. But somewhere between ver. 12 and ver. 26, the name of the Opera program was changes from "opera.exe" to "launcher.exe". I was unaware of this and continued to use the shortcut to the old program name.
My immediate reaction is that the user interface has been completely messed up. What made Opera superior to the other browsers is a number of exclusive features. It appears that Opera has tried to copy the other browsers and given up its unique features. This posting is an attempt to see if which, if any, of the old features are recoverable--before I abandon ship and join up with Firefox.
A. Is there a way to save a web page as "Single file web archive" (extension "mht")? No other browser had this handy feature.
B. Is there a way to restore the zoom slider in the bottom right of the Opera window, which was much better than a screen-blocking drop-down menu with fixed increments?
C. Is there a way to recover the "key" icon, which allowed Opera to get into virtually all password-protected sites with only one click? None of the other browsers could come close to Opera in this department. The other browsers would save passwords, but then many web sites would not accept the password from the browser. Opera was able to force password acceptance.
D. Is there a way to open an Internet file saved locally on the user's computer with out going to MS Windows Explorer and selecting the file from that program? (Which would only work if Opera is the default browser.) "Open" was in the "File" menu.
E. Is there a way to manage bookmarks? The help topic "Get started" mentions "the bookmark manager". But I have been unable to find any other mention or description of "how to". The old Opera required only TWO clicks to select a web site. The new Opera requires SIX. (That's for both "Bookmarks" in the main menu--I have never seen a menu with two identical options.) I think if I am able to re-arrange the bookmarks in the bookmark directory structure, I can reduce the number of clicks to a mere FOUR.
F. Has the "form fill" function been removed? It's not working and I can find no reference to it in "Search Help".
Any help with these six areas could keep me an enthusiastic Opera supporter.
PS: I wrote this off-line and see that some of the questions have been answered--in the negative.
PPS: Why do I have to re-register each time I participate in this forum? Rhetorical question.
