I don't think it's one of opera's best features. In either case...it's an annoyance....if you set it to disabled...err that means I want it to be disabled...not annoyed ever 5 days when it pops out again... if you didn't want that feature you'd be annoyed too....

Opera is going down hill Let the user be in control people...or user's will go where they can be...

IMO This was the initial complaint....

Not too many people care enough about security to have to click on firewall options repeatedly all day... one wants to set settings and be left alone... there is also the argument of convenience over security... personally, I do not lock my car doors when they are parked at home....it's an acceptable risk to save me time....

In either case it's good that the problem is solved I haven't seen the problem since I updated my computer about 2 months ago...must have just co-incided with execution from same location change...

@leocg Thanks Leocg, makes sense I suppose.... I sit in the don't like it camp. IMO it's a bad choice by opera. I've never had to roll back from an update, but this...is a pain.... most users don't even know what a firewall is let alone why this would be happening... I guess it is what it is... one has to deal with it...

This coupled with the sidebar reappearing problem, sigh...computers suck...

@leocg That makes sense...but...why does opera do it that way? Seems like a poor choice in terms of keeping customers happy...I am sure there is some technical reason for it....but if other browsers can do it, why not opera...

Same with forced windows 10 updates/reboots...sure there's a reason for it...but whats worse...a virus or pain in the ass risk of lost work first Tuesday of every month..... for mine...I choose a virus

In such a way as to cause a pop up? Like...described in this thread... you seem to think it's not by design...you could be right...I don't know...

I don't know what the real cause is, seems as tho nobody in this thread does.... one suggestion is because opera's executable is getting replaced on updates...
That doesn't help me.....I dunno man... all I can tell you is it doesn't happen with other browsers...one can only presume it's something opera is doing that the other browsers aren't...

Do you work for Opera or are you just a hobby moderator? Where I stand it's easier to swap browsers than try and find out what the issue is... that's why I find it a bit strange, because it doesn't bode well for Opera... but who the hell knows...im a consumer, they're always ignorant fools

@opedara I would agree this thread is weird...

The bottom line is, it's gonna take a fair bit of effort to figure out. You have to decide if that energy exceeds moving to a different browser.

Personally, I am just ignoring the issue until I can summon the energy to make the move...I find it a bit strange that Opera seem to design their browser this way... from a customers perspective, it's best not to have to exert energy...

@leocg I do use other browsers, but not nearly as much...

My children use Chrome.
My wife uses Chrome on her work computer, she's never asked me about it (she'd panic and melt down at such a message)
I use Opera 99% of the time, and a lot more heavily that my children do. I have firefox, chrome, edge and vivaldi installed, never had the firewall thing...
I visit a far wider range of websites that my children.
I can't rule out the same thing happens in other browsers, but I think that unlikely. I never hear of anyone else mentioning it....it's the kind of thing that annoys people, so it would get mentioned I would think...

But I dunno....

I don't have the answer... its annoying, I just accept it... it doesn't endear me to Opera tho...only stay cause its a 15 or more year habit

That's true, I haven't used any other browser for 10 years. but reputedly it doesn't happen with other browsers?

I dunno, just seems something you'd want to avoid foisting on users if you were intent on gaining market share. I don't run the joint so... it is what it is

Thinking of ditching Opera....this and the annoying sidebar problem...

@rjrapier It's a strange thing you know. How things like this happen to organisations. I'm almost 100% certain that anyone in their right mind would acknowledge that this is poor design, a huge glaring bug, or just something that shouldn't be. Yet it somehow gets through testing and released to the public.

I can only guess there is some opinionated guy in charge at Opera who refuses to budge on his/her idea, and all his subordinates just go yeah ok boss, whatever you say sir...

I mean...that's how it works at my workplace...the boss is an idiot and everyone just does as he says because it's easier to.
