I noticed that the firewall prompt re-appears each time right after an automatic update. There is no (relevant) delay.
Last time, I did not have any open tabs, and messengers in the side pane were disactivated. (Plugings / extensions are not disactivated, though.)

To me it really seems that it is Opera that is doing whatever here.
And not some tab or some external actor.

I'd really like to know what is causing the firewall alert, but I have understood from the discussion above that supposedly Opera cannot tell me this, because Opera doesn't know anything about the data transfer that triggers the alert.

I am not fully convinced, but well, I guess that's just my personal problem.

Too bad though, that the answers do not satisfy the people here.
Or maybe, it is just the product, and not the answers.

I would have thought that Opera tries to do something that triggers the firewall, and that is not the simple IP http thing I want it to do.
But I understand from you, that there is stuff that Opera is not doing, but that is coming from "the outside" and that triggers the windows firewall, leading to the message that has been shown in this thread's firts post.
It is weird and not satisfying to me, but well.

@opedara Hello leocg. Thank you for giving the explanation, why the defender warning pops up again and again! It's great to have people assist us users here.

Maybe you could even help clarify the mystery entirely for us; Which Opera- feature is demanding the connection that windows defender ist blocking at all / in general / in the first place?
I would like to disable this feature, I think.
It is not the basic internet browsing, as this keeps on working after declining.

I would like to turn off or change the hotkey ctrl-space (tab searcher).
I need it for the webtool "workflowy".

I could not find it in the configuration settings.
Nothing from this old post worked: https://forums.opera.com/topic/5929/please-disable-the-shortcut-ctrl-space.

I have opera portable on windows, German / Swiss German localization.

I'd be happy to find a solution!
