@burnout426 Thanks for your detailed response. However, I have not seen any task or process in Windows Task Manager (in the Processes tab) and the "Opera Assistant" earlier showing in Startup tab wasn't showing after I fully uninstalled Opera and restarted the PC.
BTW, the browser wasn't getting uninstalled from Windows ->Settings-> Apps process and was giving some error, so had to use Revo Uninstaller to fully cleanup Opera from my PC. Yet, after restart and reinstalling Opera afresh, I see the same issue, i.e. Opera shows one version older while Windows->Settings-> Opera version is 109.0.5097.38 which was the latest last weekend. Also, the browser keeps showing in main menu a message to restart browser to update to latest version, yet it never does after restarting the browser. Happens in loop. Didn't find any Opera browser removal tool online (Opera should provide one) so have uninstalled yet again with Revo Uninstaller.
I have a licensed Windows 10 Home PC setup and a licensed security s/w too. The PC never shutdown abnormally either, so don't know what's causing this only with Opera browser. All other browsers - Edge, FF, Chrome, Brave, & Vivaldi work and update just fine.

@sierragarcia I had reported this as a Bug Report to Opera team but got no response. Tried what @andrew84 and @burnout426 suggested but no luck. Alas, will probably uninstall the browser, if no response from Opera team by weekend.

I have been facing this peculiar problem with Opera web browser on my Windows 10 PC at home. Last few version updates haven't been happening smoothly. The browser shows there's a new update, and proceeds to update, but even though it shows the new version on top of "Relaunch Now" button, it remains on same old version even after Opera browser relaunches. Last week had to uninstall Opera completely and reinstall afresh. But now new version 109.0.5097.35 doesn't update to 109.0.5097.38

Has anyone faced this issue ? What is the solution ?

@donq, Yes, I have checked the Event Logs which mention some warning messages but none related to any browser activity.

@leocg - Okay, I understand the part about JavaScript engines of Opera & Chrome. Haven't installed Opera on my Win'8.1 64-bit PC yet. Shall do so once the new version is released, which helps extend battery backup time. Will help me work longer without having to reach out for my laptop power adapter !

I had been using Google's Chrome browser for a long time and also had Opera installed on my i3 (3rd Gen) based notebook with Win'8.1 64-bit. However, recently when I tried to use both Opera and Chrome, I noticed that both Opera became somewhat unstable and would freeze often. On reading up on the web about both browsers, I understand that both Opera and Chrome use the same JavaScript Engine (Carakan), so is that the reason why I am unable to use both these browsers simultaneously ? When I closed Chrome and used Opera alone, it worked very well.

Though Opera has some inherent drawbacks including compatibility issues with various websites, I want to use it on my notebook due to some new features it has (or will soon) introduce, like built-in adblocker, a battery-saving mode (only in dev version now).

Seek clarifications from veteran Opera users on my points above, and if there's a work-around to the issue. Thanks

Well, only Adblock was installed as an add-on in my 32-bit Opera 12.15 which I uninstalled and it seems to have made hardly any difference. Now, with just one tab open, and having accessed few popular sites (GMail, Yahoo) in it for the past 15-20 minutes, noticed that Opera's memory usage jumped from 146 Mb when I just opened it, to 290 Mb now. Thankfully, Opera doesn't run a Bank, else customers would wonder where all their money disappears between morning and noon

Welcome to the club @mkivtt !!! Though many people thought Firefox was the original memory hog, Opera beats it hollow. Just yesterday I noticed that I had just one tab open in Opera 12.15 and that too the simple Google search page, and Task Manager showed Opera was using 500+ Mb memory. At this rate, will have to install one more 4Gb RAM module in my notebook, if I hope to use Opera (and Chrome, may I add).

I wonder if Opera browser folks have abandoned us in favour of the more juicy mobile browser folks. Everybody seems to be focusing on the mobile devices these days, not realizing that the PC users still remain a huge majority, and many would give the mobile version a try only if they are satisfied with the PC version of the App.

@Pesala, if you had read earlier posts (original one by me) you would have got all necessary info on system config. Sage advise from you on including system specs in one's profile signature, but how about following your own advise first ?

Anyway, am not here to troll. Would help if expert folks can give inputs on why / how memory usage is so high in Opera 12.15 (32-bit). Have been using Opera for a long time, as a secondary browser of course, but haven't faced such acute memory issues in earlier versions, esp. 11.x

Well, I have not noticed such a humongous usage of memory in previous versions of Opera desktop browser hence my concern. Doesn't help if people write their responses in older / other versions. With 12.15 Opera has become worse than Firefox was at its worst. Hope developers at Opera note such feedback and resolve it in later versions to be released.

I have been using Opera for quite sometime now, but since I updated the web browser to 12.15 about a month ago, have noticed that the browser seems to have become a memory hog, a la Firefox (which made me use Opera, to start with). I have 64-bit Windows 7 SP1 installed on my Acer notebook, and have only one add-on - AdBlock - installed in the 32-bit version of Opera installed on my system. Had removed other add-ons after having a harrowing time in one of the previous versions recently, when having more than 2-3 add-ons would crash the browser (which Opera later rectified in 12.14 I think).

Does anyone face similar issues of memory of over 300 Mb being used by Opera even if only one tab in one window is open ? Also, when is Opera likely to release the next version of the browser ?
