"Reply" mail command doesn't work

Windows 7 PC. Lost all my emails yesterday - nothing visible at start-up, including Sent, Trash. Uninstalled Opera Mail, downloaded latest version [1.0, Build 1040] and re-installed it. Spent a couple of hours re-configuring program and importing the lost messages. Now I find the "Reply" function doesn't work - after typing the reply and pressing "Send" the email just vanishes, it's not even in the trash and doesn't get sent. Nor does it appear in "Drafts". The "Compose" function works normally and emails typed it it get sent. If that is a bug in the yesterday's download, can I install a new download over the present installation, without removing it and without having to re-configure the program? Or any other suggestions?

Did you look in "All Messages/Outbox"? Open that list and click on the "settings for this view" icon on the toolbar above the message list and make sure "show sent" is set.
If it's in there, on the "Servers" tab in the account's properties, make sure all the outgoing server settings are correct and retype your username and password.

Yes. When the installer launches, click "options" to make sure the install path is the same where the button at the bottom them says "upgrade".
You can close down Opera Mail and rename/delete its "mail" folder (see "Menu -> Help -> About Opera Mail" for the location), start Opera Mail back up and try the import from Opera 12.x again.
Instead though, you can just stay with Opera 12.x for mail use if you want. Just rename its "mail" folder while it's closed, start it back up and set up your accounts and import from the renamed mail folder.

Many thanks for your fast answer. Did everything you suggested, including checking password on the service provider's site, and calling their help desk to check the server settings. "Reply" function still didn't work, and now that (after 2 weeks absence) there were emails waiting on the server, couldn't retrieve them! After second call to help desk, during which they took control of my PC and tried several settings, I finally tried reinstalling Opera Mail, after deleting it in Windows control panel. No luck. I wonder if there is something left in the Registry which is the cause of the problem, but I'm not going to fiddle with that. So it's goodbye to Opera, after many, many years. But thanks anyway for your help, not the first time.
