History dissappears!

I use an old version of Opera - Operator 12.02, since I dislike the new releases. no problems for 3 years, but a few days ago I noticed, when I opened the browser, that all the History has vanished. It records the History for the current session, but when I close the browser and later reopen it e.th. has dissappeard!?!
All the settings seem to be OK, the History tab under preferences is set to record 5000 addresses, I did not change a.th.....
Does anyone have a clue as how to solve this problem since it is very annoying!

Not, really...well thats what I forgot to mention it seems that it has somehow reset itself to clear private Data on exit, but how and why, remains a mystery to me.
Also when closing the browser I noticed a smnall dialog box appearing, saying s.th. like "wait a lttle....", which didnt appear before!
