Hi,
A new install of Opera 12.17 on win 7 64-bit loads real slow. I can watch the element count going up, sometimes way beyond 100 before anything happens on the screens. Sometimes I have to wait up to 20 seconds. I'm wondering if there's a setting to tell Opera to start loading a page immediately?
Thanks,
Ed

Under settings, preferences, advanced, browsing there is redraw instantly. Not sure if this is your problem tho

Opera Presto haven't gotten any update since 2013 and it won't get anymore. It wil get older and older with more and more problems. You should try the new version.

No, Sidney, I don't think so. Maybe it's the system.
Who uses 11.x? What about 32? Or other than W.7? -

It's alreday set to redraw instantly.
I had it installed on win 7 32-bit before and it loaded normal. The slow loading started with the 64-bit version.

I am sure it has to be something wrong with his install that's causing the problem. Opera 12 still works just fine, except for a really small minuscule number of websites. No need get carried away and switch to new opera if he don't want to. There are plenty threads about issues with new opera too

On my Win7-64 system, Opera 12.14-32bit loads in 4 seconds from a cold start to a single functional tab. While 12.14 is obviously not 12.17, there are few differences of note between them in regards to speed performance. To take 20 seconds to load seems remarkably long, unless perhaps you're starting as a prior session with many tabs. My 12.14 install has default settings in place where speed might be impacted, apart from some user options that have no bearing on startup speed.
I do have Opera updating blocked on my installation, both from within Opera and by having removed the Opera updater file, for SSL protocol control reasons. The only speed impact of that would be if your installation is perhaps trying to contact an Opera server for various update information/status and is having problems connecting.

I usually have only 1 tab open, the home page.
From there, any new page (from speed dial) takes that long, with the elements count going up. Is there any way to find whether or not my install tries to access an Opera server every time I open a tab?
