Hi, everyone. I noticed that when I close tabs in Opera, then restart it, those same closed tabs reopen as if I'd never closed them. I'm not sure what's causing this; I looked in the settings and could not find anything remotely close to this behavior.

Note: (Is there a feature in Opera that acts like Firefox where upon starting Opera only the tab you're on loads and not all at once? That is such an excellent feature.)

      Thank you!

If you go to settings, Alt P, you have for Start up only three choices:

        (1) Continue where I left off

        (2) Open the start page

        (3) Open a specific page or set of pages.

If you closed tabs, they should not have reopened upon a restart, as far as I can ascertain.

If you have three tabs open when you close down the browser, I don't see how you can open the browser, and just have the one you were on show up. Unless there's an extension that causes that behavior. However, my guess is that if you select, "Continue where I left off," the tab you were on will show up in the foreground. The other tabs you were on should be in the background. I use, "open the start page," for the Speed Dial, so I'm just trying to go by memory on what happens with "Continue where I left off."

Right, I usually keep the option "Continue where I left off" activated, except in this instance tabs that I have closed previously and were completely done with are reopened after browser restart. I don't know how to explain this behavior either; has anyone else not experienced this type of behavior?

Also, I've just freshly installed Opera and have no other extensions installed except for Adblock.

There is one scenario where this happens with "continue where I left off" selected:

            1. Start with a single window with a few tabs.
            2. Open a new private window.
            3. Close the first window.
            4. Open a new window. It includes the previously seen tabs.

The same happens when you restart Opera after (3) with nothing but a private window left.

Although surprising at first, this could actually be an intentional feature.

Is there a way to reset this behavior? It just happened again when I closed Opera. Oddly enough, the very last tab I closed (which was a youtube video) didn't appear with the rest of the closed tabs.

The problem is becoming frustrating, today I open Opera and was wondering why it was taking so long to open. Opera had resurrected about 10 closed tabs which I had to close once again.

Is there no way to fix this behavior? I'll try reinstalling Opera now.

                  Maybe some "session autosave" extension?

Or can it be some processes jamming?
You could try opening your system task manager, then close a bunch of tabs and see what's happening.

Opera is freshly installed, except for Adblock I haven't installed any other extensions.

I'll try that out next time it opens some closed tabs.

Ok, I looked through the task manager, closed the tabs that opened; the only change I saw was one Opera reference disappeared for that one tab, nothing else. I haven't reinstalled Opera yet, I'm going to do that now.

After uninstalling Opera completely, then reinstalling it, I find that this problem is a glitch of some sort with Opera itself. I might be wrong, however this is a fresh install. The version I'm using is the most up-to-date version, 28.0.1750.51 - Stable.

The problem of resurrected old tabs continues and I am unsure how to manage it without removing the very useful option of continuing where I left off.

I'd try to uninstall Opera using Revo Uninstaller and have it wipe out everything.

I have exactly the same behavior with Opera. Could you solve this issue?

Did you try uninstalling Opera with Revo Uninstaller and then reinstalling it?

No, I'll try. Using Revo Uninstaller resolve your problem?

I can say that uninstalling with Revo Uninstaller does not work. The problem persists. I'm actually surprised a lot more people haven't encountered this bug. It's unfortunate, I've been alternating between Opera and Firefox because of this problem. I usually keep essential tabs open but Opera is simply not allowing it with this bug.

Try uninstalling Opera and then installing it someplace other than Program files. Like C:\Opera or something. Does that fix it?

If not, try it again but do a portable install. Its in Options > Install for when running the installer. Again, put it in its own folder on your drive, not in Program Files.

Do either of these solutions fix the problem?

Installing from C:\ does not work, I've tested it out right now. I want to keep using Opera to make certain it didn't work, however there are tabs opening on launch which shouldn't be.

As for this portable install, I'm not quite sure, but the 'Install For' section is greyed out and by default installs for "All users of this computer".

Also, now I'm having an issue after installing Opera in C:, where Opera continues asking me if I want it to be the default browser. I clicked yes, but every launch asks me for this. It really seems as if there's strange bugs in Opera I've never encountered before but many others should have.

Does you user account have full administrator privileges? Because the symptoms you are describing are generally run into when you don't.

I have a similar issue. It just started within the last few days so must be related to the 29 update.

When the browser starts up(even though I have continue where I left off checked) it only opens a few of the tabs. I have about 16 open(I actually had a few more but got tired of hunting for them in history every time I opened the browser) but it'll only randomly open 3 or 4 of them. It also opens two other opera windows, which I then close, but every time I open the browser those extra two windows open.

There doesn't seem to be a "save session" option anymore either. That would help.

Is there anyway to fix this? I even tried signing up for the synchronization thing but all it ever says is "synchronization isn't working, connection to synchronization server is temporarily unavailable"

Yeah, your definitely having some system issues also. backup your important Opera files, use Revo Uninstaller to completely whip out Opera, reboot and install it again. Make sure you install it from your Admin account and right click the installer and click 'Run as Administrator'.

On a side note a very good session manager is Session Buddy. Much more full featured than the manager in Opera 12. Get the 'Download Chrome Extension' from the Opera extension store and then install Session Buddy from the Chrome store and you'll be all set. They plan on doing a Opera release at some point but they haven't gotten around to it.
