Does you user account have full administrator privileges? Because the symptoms you are describing are generally run into when you don't.

Yes, I am the only user of this system, and I have full administrative privileges. I never encountered any administrative privilege problems generally or with any other software.

Hi, try deleting 3 files starting with "session..." in your AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable folder.
