Not happy. Lost a significant amount of trust in Opera after this. I lost a lot of things I was working on and didn't have time to save. I do not appove of automatic updates. Something always breaks. You have to give us an opportunity to save our work.

In your case, did you just start Opera normally where you noticed that Opera had updated because the https://www.opera.com/client/upgraded tab opened or did you goto the URL opera://about to check for updates and click "Relaunch" after the update was ready? Sounds like the former from the title, but please clarify.

Also, look in Opera's install folder (path at the URL opera://about). What specific version folders are shown there? Curious to see if you were on the previous build before Opera updated or a build older than that (which would tell whether it was a small, patched update or a full download update).

Also, on your on Windows and if so, is your user account on Windows a limited/normal user account or an admin account?

Also, where is Opera installed? Is it in "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera" or "C:\Program Files\Opera"?

Also, what install type does it show at the URL opera://about?

@opeepo10 Same here. Approx 48 tabs gone and 8 workspaces. Opera had updated automatically many many times before with no issues, settings had save tabs set, etc, so I assumed this would always be the case.
Worse, I managed to use ShadowExpress to find what looks like my tabs file from just prior to the catastrophe on the 23 July, but despite trying all the usual tricks, renaming, etc, deleting the newer files for tabs and sessions, Opera happily overwrites and doesn't open the old tabs file.

Same thing just happened to me. Opera did an automatic update. I clicked to restart opera and when it started up I got message after message stating that it could not open my profile. Had to keep closing the messages before Opera finally opened. Everything is gone. My active tabs, settings, and speed dials. Not happy!

@t-bone-tone While Opera is closed, you need to delete everything in the "Sessions" folder and then copy both the older Session_xxx file and the older Tabs_xxx file that you found/retrieved to the now-empty "Sessions" folder. Did you do exactly that?
