New to the Mac universe but have been an Opera user for many, many moons. In the Windows version, if only one tab is open and then gets closed, Speed Dial comes up. In the Mac version, closing the tab closes Opera. Is there a setting I need to change?

      Opera version: 124.0.5705.42

      MacOS: 15.7.2

      Thanks

On macOS, Opera closes when the last tab is closed by default. To fix it, enable ‘Warn on closing window’ or use Cmd + T to open a new tab instead of closing the last one.

This is actually a common difference people notice when switching from Windows to macOS. On Windows, Opera keeps the main window open and shows Speed Dial when the last tab is closed. But on macOS, closing the last tab often closes the whole app because macOS treats the window and the application a bit differently.

You can fix this by enabling the setting that keeps Opera open even when the last tab is closed:

          Go to:
Opera → Settings → Advanced → Browser → User interface
Then turn on “Show start page instead of closing the window” (wording may vary slightly depending on version).

Once that’s enabled, closing the final tab should bring up Speed Dial instead of shutting down Opera.

          Hope that helps
