I happened to be running a network monitor to see the end of a longer download, when I noticed that it went back up to 1 MB/s (7890 Kbps) after the download had finished. Starting TCPView I see it is Opera constantly connecting to the net at an increasing rate.
I stopped Opera and it went away.
I restarted Opera and watched the usage slowly climb back up higher and higher even though I was not doing anything.
      What could Opera be downloading?
Firefox is running simultaneously, without any activity.
If I start Maxthon, it also does nothing in idle.
So what is Opera doing? I could understand a short pre-fetch, but for hours?
I started a TCPView window and found it connects to fra02s22-in-f4.1e100.net, which is Google, but why would it download endlessly from Google?
I lack the knowledge to determine what it is connecting to and where it is downloading to, so if anyone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.
      I'm on W7 SP1 64, Opera 27.0.1689.76
      Thanks

Do you happen to have "Predict network actions to improve page load performance" turned on? It basically does exactly as you are describing. Turn it off and see if that 'fixes' it.

Just consulted my settings - I happen to have that enabled in Chrome.

Andy, are you just curious or having certain issues with the thing?
