Notifications for messengers in sidebar

Hi, is it normal or is it a bug that the messenger icons (I'm using Telegram and Slack) in the sidebar never change or indicate if there are new messages?
I’d like the icons to always be highlighted or show a red dot whenever there’s at least one message. Or even better — display an unread message counter.
Is that possible?
