Opera 15 and later + 3rd party font management = scrambled fonts

Hey!
The new and otherwise absolutely awesome Opera has been having font drawing issues ever since version 15. Based on small testing it seems that the problem randomly occurs when the font is defined as Helvetica, or "sans serif".
At first I thought it was a problem on my end, as I'm using Font Explorer to manage my fonts (as most designers working with fonts do/should do), but am not so convinced of it any more because:
a) Opera's the first time in 5 years I've encountered this kind of a problem;
b) the behaviour seems to be pretty erratic in Opera as well. For example, when I open the same Wikipedia front page in a new window, it displays just as it should:
But at the same time, Github remains broken even in the new window.
Opera's Discover page menus (topic selection and country selection) used to have the same problem in O15, but they display correctly now.I doesn't seem to be a common issue as it's still existing in O17, but needing to open Safari all the time to just be able to read some sites is getting stale...

It could be an issue with Font Locker itself. I use Extensis Suitcase Fusion to manage quite an extensive fonts collection and I've had no issues with font rendering... and I'm on Github quite a lot. Try loading the same pages in Chrome as it may be an issue pertaining to Font Explorer having compatibility issues with the Blink rendering engine. Apple went their own way with WebKit long before Google/Opera committed to the fork so it would be a good place to start any diagnosis.

Thanks for the suggestion to try it with Chrome, it seems that the same pages are indeed broken with Google's browser as well. Further investigation led me here:

Apparently it's a long known Chromium issue (that even got fixed for a moment somewhere in between) that's sadly not getting any developer attention. There were some temporary workarounds suggested over there as well, guess all I can do for now is to try them out.
Edit: Yep, disabling all other versions of Helvetica besides the system one in FontExplorer seems to fix it. It's still a workaround rather than a fix tho.
