It is so slow I found this forum, created an account, confirmed it, and posted this message and it is still downloading!

Servers need regular maintenance. While that is being done, downloads may be slower. Some sites close altogether for an hour or more during routine maintenance.
So the very thing that you want them to do — fix the download server — is probably what's causing the slower than usual downloads.
