Can't select tabs

Can someone please tell me if there's anything that can be done to get rid of the space between tabs. This is happening because the browser is forcing itself to have a gap between tabs, as shown here:
But in doing so makes the actual tabs so small its basically impossible to click it -

I hate this new update, I can no longer close specific tabs when there is more than like 10 and they are so small because there is so much empry space inbetween the UI elements
