Adverts in Linux

Use Opera happily as my default in Windows, where it effectively abolishes the obnoxious ads that YouTube puts up, which mostly serve as an attempt to annoy people enough to get them to pay for premium YouTube. I won't.
Thinking about a Linux migration however, and running Opera on Linux for the first time today, I see the ads are instantly there, just as if I was on Chrome back in Windows.
Is there anything I can do about that?

I do not see any adverts on youtube (nor generally for that matter). I have the ghostery extension enabled and that may help a bit, too; when I pause it on youtube I do get a (ignorable for me) pop-up.
Did you check your opera settings ("Easy setup") that "block ads" are enabled?

First, thanks for the reply. I did indeed do the setup correctly. I may have overlooked the possibility that the browser (maybe even the system) need to be restarted for all of it to take full effect. But the ads are being snuffed now.
Thanks again, and I apologize for not waiting a bit before posting.
