Bypass VPN doesn't, really

Recently, I have found that adding a bypass rule doesn't always allow a site that doesn't "like" the vpn to load/load correctly. I have had to disable vpn fully.
I have also noted that even when the site loads, there is a speed penalty when using a bypass rule. The Oookla speed test site is a good example of this:
https://www.speedtest.net
With the bypass rule I get 4-12Mbps down and 5Mbps up.
VPN disabled I get 75-76Mbps down and 20Mbps up.The first issue is the problem, requiring the VPN to be deactivated means that sites that require it, don't function properly. Not insurmountable, but not the quality I have come to expect from Opera.
