[Compilation]Data Loss After An Update/Upgrade

Hey, what do you want, you have now awesome animations! sigh ...
I just woke up and my system too. Opera was sluggish and even bogged down the mouse movement, when minimizing it was ok. So I closed it.
After restarting Opera all tabs where gone. Not that much, maybe 50? I thought CTRL Shift T will bring them back, but I get a crash window, sometimes Opera just restarts.
All extensions got disabled, also great.
I found a page describing how to get them back from the Sessions file, the problem is that there is none before the crash. I looked at the session and tab files and extracted the URLs out of them and found only a handful of old tabs. Great backup, glad I have multiple files with basically nothing I need. Always good to have! I searched all binary files for my tabs, but nothing.
I had no crash reports enabled as it looks like, so nothing to provide.
To be fair: at least the session information seems to be intact, there was no need to login into the services after the restart.
Now the only reason why I use Opera is gone. If the workplaces are not working reliable I can also go back to use chrome. Sure, I will have a cluttered tabbar but at least my tabs will not vanish.
I'm really pissed.

@notlocalhorst I knew I lost a couple of seldom-used workspaces after the update, wasn't sure it did that, but seems it did.
WTF are the devs smoking with this new version, they've made quite a mess of things...

@ledsalesoz I just found out that I also lost tabs in workspaces without crashing. My main workspace was nearly empty after another suspend/resume.
In one workspace I had some Opera forum tabs open: all gone.

@notlocalhorst It's damned annoying, but seems to be related to sync, do you have sync on or off. I keep it off all the time and use local and cloud backups of all Opera config files, I've always found Opera sync to be iffy at best. I knew the other day when I turned it on that I shouldn't have been doing that way, I won't use it again...

I lost all my work here as well. We need an immediate fix of some sort, especially since syncing did not solve the issue.

I love the workspaces, already set it up for myself, but the browser just losing all my open tabs every time. It's just unacceptable, I won't recover it again it forth time manually, I have to switch to another browser.
And why can't you add closed tabs recovery in one bunch, so at least I could recover the lost things fast? Like Chrome gives an opportunity to recover closed windows, not only every page. -

@notlocalhorst I had some hope, that there is some saved sessions before all my tabs in all the workspaces are gone, but I don´t even have such a file from before my tabs were gone. So no restoring possible. I´m quite pissed right now too! And from another user posting, that every time you close Opera tabs are gone again, there is basically no reason left to use this browser.

Same here, lost all my tabs (200+) in different workspaces.
I am using Opera as my number 1 browser since it was launched.
This is the worst that ever happend to this browser. Dislike -

I completely reset my browser and its looks like it's working now, at least it stopped losing new sessions, but history and all customizations is gone, so it's basically start from scratch
If it'll lose my stuff one more time I'm dropping it. -

There is an extension called Tab Hamster which I strongly recommend. It restores all lost tabs with one click.
Losing all tapes has become sth regular during the last year, but this time it happened two times within 24 h.
Not the only fault. I don`t know what is happening but Opera is getting worse and worse, losing all its former advantages. Been using Opera for decades, so it is hard to leave, but I am looking now for alternatives. -

@marguerid Opera has definitely gone backwards with the latest version, but I've looked around and never found a browser with all the functionality of it, most aren't even close. I use workspaces all the time, that's pretty much a must-have for me and I haven't seen any other browser with that. Some have tab groups etc, but that's a clunky, half-arsed way of doing it, really don't want to have to move to that system.
Anyone got any suggestions for a viable alternative browser?

Well, Opera One got me today. Closing a tab, it crashed and wiped all my tabs in all workspaces and history. Have gone back to V99 and disabled autoupdate.
I guess I'm looking for an alternative now...

yep, this is a big issue. Flow is not working and on top of that it is breaking something and might be causing crashes and stuff, just a guess. But ya, recently losing tabs a lot. So much so that I changed to portable version and then used "restic" backup program to create snapshots daily so that I can go back to one of the previous state. But with portable version you cant have it as default browser which is bummer.
Tried the manual sessions restore by renaming but it did not work.
Partial solution is to use synced tabs(opera://activity/) ( which ironically only sync active tabs/workspaces instead of all tabs). I was able to restore atleast half of the tabs in my workspace but the whole thing just sucks. I wish I used something like tab hamster because it is more reliable than anything Opera has for tab backup.
I heard that Edge has also introduced workspaces in insider preview so once stable version gets workspaces I might switch over. They already have tab groups and their implementation is better as well. closed tab groups stay closed instead of opening up every time I reopen opera.

@tinnted Hadn't heard they were implementing workspaces in Edge, would be a sad thing to have to go back to an MS product, but if it works, so be it. Opera are really shooting themselves in the foot with this issue.

@tinnted Ok, just had a look at Edge and seems workspaces is already implemented. It's not quite the same as Opera's system but certainly passable as an alternative.

@ledsalesoz I used to use multiple browsers before workspaces was a thing but since opera introduced workspaces I have stick to just opera as main browser and edge as side browser. New edge is very good. I started using it because of bing AI but it is not that bad.
The browser setting sync is better on Edge. But edge tracks a lot of stuff by default.I dont want to list and compare features here but go through all the settings in Edge and you will find lot of new things, bad and good.
Features I will miss from opera will be the Speed Dail and inbuilt VPN. Speed Dail is very easy to manage since it integrates with bookmarks. And I can access different speed dails from mobile as well.

@tinnted Just trying Vivaldi, it's workspaces work more like Opera, so may end up using that...
