After being away from Opera for over 10 years, I decided to give it another shot and I was blown away with the new Opera. Needless to say, I'm here to stay. I would like to see a feature to change the search engine on the homepage and get away from Google and Bing(Microsoft) search due to privacy and data collection. Google are Microsoft are not in the search engine business but are in the business of data collection and who knows what they do with it beside selling the info. Under Basic settings--->On startup---->Open a specific page or set of pages, I was able to create a page using Startpage as the search engine. However, when I open a new tab from Startpage, Opera reverts back to the homepage and there is Google staring me in the face. Under Search engines, all of the selections are powered by Google or Microsoft. Even yahoo search is powered by Bing. On 5 August 2009, Google offered to acquire On2 Technologies(formerly known as The Duck Corporation "duckduckgo") for $106.5 million in Google stock. On 7 January 2010, Google increased its offer to $133.9 million, and on February 17, 2010, the stockholders of On2 Technologies voted to accept the offer. On 19 February 2010, the transaction was completed, valued at approximately $124.6 million. Duckduckgo was a rival of Google and you can see that money talks. If I'm stuck with either of those two companies, I will continue to use a VPN for privacy.
