  • The ChromePDF plugin is pretty nice and fast. The only let-down is the error handling when it can't open a downloaded pdf. My specific problem:
I use a website, that offers some content as encrypted pdfs. Unfortunately there is no direct download link, but the files are prepared individually on request for the user. When I open one of these pdfs it fails (such as other browserplugins and browsers) and I'd have to open it in an external "proper" pdf-viewer.
Now, firefox in this case recommends "open pdf in external program" but ChromePDF just shows the error and I can't "download" it (basically the pdf has to be cached temporarily somewhere, so why not just offer to copy it to download-folder.)

Does someone know a way to copy/download it or circumvent this problem? Thanks

  • Just disable your ChromePDF and the PDF will be downloaded. Then you can open it in your favourite PDF-Viewer.

  • Thanks for the answer. I know there's always the possibility to disable the plugin. I was rather looking for a more practical/convenient way.
Since I'm reading pdfs from many different sites I appreciate an integrated viewer but for the few encrypted ones it'd be way too interrupting to disable the plugin and re-enabling it after the download.

It'd be nice to have a solution like firefox is offering it within ChromePDF
