The initial page load of any new URL I bring up is painfully slow; using the latest version of the app on an iPhone 6.

Maybe you could try selecting between one of the three data saving modes offered in Opera Mini for IOS, by tapping the Opera logo.

1. Opera Mini Mode (data saving up to 90%)

2. Opera Turbo Mode (data saving up to 50%)

3. Disabled (no data saving, full web experience, video and audio etc)

And see if that makes any difference to your page loading experiences.
